About Me

Amrata Joshi
"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see"

Guided by Edgar Degas's famous line, I am delighted to share my artistic journey. My lifelong passion for art, which began in childhood, found its true expression in the immense joy and versatility of watercolors.

My Journey

My work is primarily realistic, featuring color schemes that reflect my emotions and experiences. Each piece tells a story, revealing my travels to diverse countries, my appreciation for their cultures, and my fascination with history. My background as a Botanist and my profound love for the natural world are also deeply woven into the fabric of my art.

The medium of watercolor itself is a source of endless fascination. Its transparency and fluidity allow for a unique interplay of light and color, creating effects that can be both spontaneous and deliberate. Each brushstroke is a commitment, a dance between control and surrender, much like the natural processes I aim to depict. It is this delicate balance that I find so compelling, as it challenges me to capture the fleeting moments of beauty in the world around us.

Landscapes

Many of my landscapes are inspired by visits to countries like China, Ireland, and London during winter, where I find beauty in withered plants, grey skies, and soft drizzles. Through my work, I aim to transform the seemingly negative into the positive. A tree in winter, having shed its leaves, stands as a testament to resilience, patiently awaiting new growth. This mirrors the human capacity to face challenges and await the happiness that follows.

Botanical Art

My botanical pieces are born from the tranquility of my own garden. These artworks are intended to bring a sense of calm and positivity, especially in moments of stress. The delicate and vibrant nature of flowers, in particular, serves as a symbol for a wide spectrum of moods and emotions.

Still Life - Life Series

"Tell your story to the world" an inspiring quote from the book Becoming by former first lady Michelle Obama inspired me to ponder over my life. The still life works in this catalogue are close to my heart. As someone who enjoys cooking, I spend enough time in the kitchen. I began to share my story through a Jar to express my feelings with artwork using metaphors and symbolism. You can see the sequence of my life, from childhood to the present, in my works Juvenile through Hope. This series is still in the making.

With this, I welcome you to my journey.
